What magical being would I be?
Answering a quiz here on Medium.

I’m just after finding this fun quiz in my Medium recommendations, and decided to give it a go. It’s archetypal and interesting, not very deep, but we don’t always need depth. Sometimes, when looking at our surface-level traits (both introspective and relational), we can find overlooked aspects of ourselves. Plus, quizes are a relaxing activity [in my opinion]. Try it out.
Beyond unsurprising, my answers go to show yet another reason (and a very intuitive reason at that! I didn’t think much when answering the questions…) why I walk this oracular path. If you see it, you see it. I won’t explain.
I got C, followed by E. Some of the questions I answered based on what other people keep telling me they see in me (maybe it was because the first question prompted me to think of that), so I added a “shadow answer” that sometimes comes up: overwhelmingly G but sometimes F.
When analysing the answers, I recommend paying more attention to the description given (qualities and traits) than the “labels” (creature names). That’s because labels are usually placeholders, they don’t tell you with 100% certainty that a certain creature IS like this or like that. For instance, the label I would personally use for “unicorn” is “elf”. I legit thought the C answers were an elf as I went through the exercise. Neither me or the author are wrong! For the vampire, she didn’t focus on the typical thing we think of when we think of vampires (the blood sucking), but instead the fact they’re a little gothic and “chthonic”, deal with taboos, etc. That’s what I mean when I say descriptions matter more in this kind of quiz.
The answers I got, according to the quiz author, are as follows:
C) Unicorn
You are a free spirit but you can still be timid and submissive at times. You came to this world as a human in order to express your creativity. You’re also here to inspire and bring back imagination to the world.
E) Fairy
Fairies are sweet and silly, but they can also be mischievous. You wanted to become a human in order to show people how to reconnect with nature. You also thought it’d be a cool adventure.
…And for my “shadow answers”, ie. The traits others see in me but I don’t:
G) Vampire
Not all vampires are evil and most of them are just innocent victims of vampire bites. You probably never asked to be human, either. Your earthly mission is to expose the darkness of the world.
Looking back, I think all 3 make up very important aspects of who I am. I’m especially glad I included the shadow here. I don’t mean it as a “negative” part of me, I’d just say “hidden from myself”. Perhaps you’re looking at it and saying it’s obvious, why can’t I see it, etc. That’s the interesting thing about shadows: they do in fact look obvious for the outside observer. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t learn so much about ourselves through relationships (it would suffice to just be reclusive and stay alone, wouldn’t it?).
The second answer resonates, I see it in myself and so do other people. In fact, it applies literally, but you only know that if you know me in person — people keep telling me I look like a pixie (again, different label, but it goes with the quiz result). When it comes to the metaphorical meaning, well, let’s just say I won’t play pranks on people, but I’m a bit of a wordsmith. Make of that what you will.
The primary answer came as no surprise and was easy to choose among the alternatives — as it should be. I was always drawn to the arts, but funny enough could never relate to the bulk of other artists. This is not to put them all in a box (that’d be ironic, wouldn’t it? The very definition of “artist” implies innovation and uniqueness), but I’m talking about a personality trait: usually, creative people are delicate, sweet and demure. Myself, though… Uhhh… The opposite of that. Perhaps my secondary and tertiary answers will tell you why.
