The Narcissist is stuck on an island of lovelessness in which he plays god with those whose souls he cannot recognize. And so, many of those whom he puts on that island — those who lack self-esteem, who lack boundaries, who lack secure attachment; those who suffer codependence, who suffer Avoidant or Dependent Personality Disorder, who play the empath to his narcissism— find themselves as stuck in the Narcissist’s world as the Narcissist himself. That is the true cruelty of this godless god: he makes you live in the world of his own misery.

Wow. You made a mind-blowing analogy here. Interesting how this started as an exercise in imagination (how a narcissist would fare without real fans) and ended up becoming a very plausible explanation for why they ACTUALLY behave the way they do. As always, brilliant.
